Associated Students of the University of Utah

General Senate Meeting Agenda 

10.17.2024 6:00PM-10:00PM 

 

Call to Order 

Senate Chair will call the meeting to order to convene the General Senate session.

The Parliamentarian and secretary will take and document roll call.

Land Acknowledgement (Sen. Perez)  

“We acknowledge that this land, which is named for the Ute Tribe, is the traditional and ancestral homeland of the Shoshone, Paiute, Goshute, and Ute Tribes. The University of Utah recognizes and respects the enduring relationship that exists between many Indigenous peoples and their traditional homelands. We respect the sovereign relationship between tribes, states, and the federal government, and we affirm the University of Utah’s commitment to a partnership with Native Nations and Urban Indian communities through research, education, and community outreach activities.” 

 

Public Forum 

Opportunity for members of the public (i.e. any non-Senate community members) to spend time talking with and/or presenting to the Senate. 

  

General Announcements 

Time for any ASUU Senators to share out any important announcements with the group. 

  • The Elections Board will come for an announcement.

 

 

 

 

Executive Committee Reports 

Members of the Senate executive Committee will have time to share updates from their areas (i.e. what they and their teams are working on.)

Impeachment: 

Chair Johnson: Read articles of Impeachment  

  1. Presentation

*This is a time only for Involved Party members to speak (non-involved senators will only be listening during this time.) 

  

  • Opening Statement from Chair Johnson- (This will include the introduction of the Articles of Impeachment and an additional statement if she would like.)

  

  • Opening Statement from Senator Roelofs

  

  • Witnesses will be called by Chair Johnson and prosecution team to ask questions or have them speak in support of the prosecution’s case. (Each witness has a 5-minute talking cap.)

  

  • Witnesses will be called by Senator Roelofs to answer questions or speak in support of Roelofs’ case. (Each witness has a 5-minute talking cap.)

  

  • Cross Examination by Chair Johnson and team. They can ask any question directed to Senator Roelofs or her called witnesses.

  

  • Cross-Examination by Senator Roelofs. She can ask any questions directed to any of the prosecution members or their called witnesses.

  

  • Closing Statement from Chair Johnson.

  

  • Closing Statement from Senator Roelofs.

  

  1. Questions

  

  • This is where Senators can ask any questions that are appropriate, respectful, and relevant to the prosecuting and defending parties.

* It is important to note that we are only asking questions in this section. We will not be making any statements for or against support of the adoption of these articles of impeachment. 

  

  1. Debate
  • We will close the doors to all involved members during this time and just have it be open to advisors, non-involved Senators, and ex-officio members.
  • This is where Senators can freely discuss whether we should adopt the articles of impeachment and the reasoning behind any stance.

  

  1. Vote

  

  • A simple majority vote will be required to either approve or reject the adoption of the Articles of Impeachment brought forth By Chair Johnson and team.

*The doors will remain closed into the vote for all involved party members. 

  

  1. Announce Decision

  

  • Senator Kearse will bring back all involved party members and announce whether the Articles of Impeachment have been adopted by the Senate
  • If adopted, Senator Kearse will also announce when and where the Impeachment Trial will be taking place.
